Wayumi
Do you want to expand global ministry awareness in your church?
Wayumi (“why-you-me”) is a great place to learn about ethnolinguistic people groups who have no access to the Gospel. Missionaries, sent by their own local churches, work with Ethnos360 teams to establish thriving churches among them.
Come to Ethnos360 Wayumi and learn:
- Why are these people important?
- Where do these people groups live?
- How many of these unreached language groups of people are there?
- Why are these people still unreached with the Gospel?
- How do you learn an unwritten language?
- What is involved in creating an alphabet?
- What is the importance of literacy in church planting?
- How do you translate the Bible into an unwritten language?
- What do you mean by foundational Bible teaching?
- What does culture have to do with it?
- What has God been doing through missionaries who work in remote places?
- What kind of skills and talents are needed for this kind of ministry?
- How can we be effective in supporting church planting among unreached unengaged people groups?
Churches bring people to central Pennsylvania for a weekend, or a week, to experience a tribal village, language acquisition, culture obstacles, Bible translation, teamwork, church planting, and the Biblical basis for missions. (Or is it, God’s mission as the basis of the Bible?)
Wayumi is located in central Pennsylvania near Williamsport in Jersey Shore or Linden. There are several different events. The core content is taught at all of the events. Of course, more can be taught in the time available in the longer programs.
Wayumi Programs include:
- Wayumi Weekend Retreats (Church Groups) (Winter, Spring & Fall)(Friday afternoon-Sunday noon)
- Wayumi Course (College and Career)(Spring Break or Fall)(7 Day Course)
- Wayumi Expedition (Senior High Youth)(Video)(Six days in June or July)
- Wayumi Quest (Youth Groups)(One day/same day event.)
- Wayumi Church Leaders Retreat – (Tuesday – Thursday.)
Wayumi is great for discovering many different aspects about missionary work among people who have not had access to the Gospel.
The weeklong Wayumi Course will open your eyes to all of the facets of this kind of cross-cultural ministry:
- Bible — Does the Bible speak specifically about reaching each ethnic group with the Gospel?
- Language — Learn that you can overcome this obstacle.
- Culture — Delve into the challenge of cross-cultural ministry.
- Animism — What do tribal people believe?
- Evangelism — Sharing the Gospel where there is no previous biblical understanding.
- Translation — Making God’s Word clear in a new language.
- Relationships — Developing friendships before you can even speak the language.
- Teamwork — It takes a team to reach isolated people groups.
Wayumi can be life-changing for leaders, college students, Senior High students, church youth groups, and missions committees, so bring some people with you to Wayumi events.
Wayumi participants will have a better understanding of what God is doing in the world, the needs of unreached people groups, the missionaries who engage in the work, and the team of people making the ministry possible.
Let’s help as many people as possible catch the vision and engage in the work!

Short Term
While Wayumi has had a great impact on participants, there are many more ways to engage in missions for a short term.
Here are some…
- Encounter
LEARN, SERVE AND EXPERIENCE MINISTRY AMONG UNREACHED PEOPLE GROUPS.

- Interface
A COLLEGE-LEVEL MISSIONS COURSE ACROSS THE GLOBE
See firsthand what it takes to plant a church among people who have no concept of the God of the Bible on an Interface trip. In this college-level missions course, you’ll learn from missionaries in Papua New Guinea or Brazil and spend time with tribal people.
- Internships
Field Support Internships
WORK ALONGSIDE FULL-TIME MISSIONARIES
After your Interface experience, stay in Papua New Guinea working with career missionaries in an Interface internship that offers a closer look at church planting or one of six key support ministries.
